Hopes of an early release for a 14-year-old Australian boy being held in Bali on drugs charges have been dealt a crushing blow.

The prosecution today demanded a three-month jail sentence, indicating it wants him punished – not rehabilitated.

The boy and his defence counsel had previously been optimistic he would be released immediately after his trial.

Judge Amswer Simanjuntak will deliver his verdict on November 25.

Under Indonesian law, he has the power to waive any custodial sentence for a juvenile, no matter what the offence. But, he can also impose a sentence higher than requested by prosecutors.
