Shoppers shipped down to Ballantynes Timaru

Denise is a shoe and luggage buyer turned tour guide. Vincy has come from cosmetics to comedy. Jess is an accessories buyer turned demonstrator. And fashion buyer Megan has brought her range on the road.

Staff at Ballantynes department store are stepping away from their counters, and out of their comfort zones.

It has been five months out of business for Christchurch’s iconic central city department store, Ballantynes.

The main building stood up well, but is stuck in the middle of the red zone. The Timaru branch is now the region's flagship store.

It has been stocked to the rafters, and the firm's loyal Christchurch customers are being loaded onto buses and driven south.
