A mascot war has broken out on Twitter after BNZ sent ASB one of their piggybanks - only to have him besieged by elephants.

ASB (@ASBBank) tweeted this morning, “Hi BNZ, thanks for the piggy… we’re making him feel right at home”.

The bank also posted a picture of the pig surrounded by ASB’s Kashin elephant moneyboxes.

Within minutes BNZ (@BNZBank) had replied, with an image of a Caribbean-themed Piggy riding atop a Kashin.

“Kashin is making friends here too,” they said.

Westpac (@WestpacNZ) has decided the matter has gone too far and Piggy is in need of rescue, tweeting “We’re on our way!” and sending their helicopter moneybox, Chopper.

Business slow in banks. As they are not willing to take a calculated risk on any lending, no wonder they are quiet. How do you expect an ecconomy to get going again, when banks will not lend more than 80% on Home Loans? Who has 20% as a deposit today? Time for banks in New Zealand to stop playing games and get with the programme.
