Bashed man was part of community's fabric

Bashed man was part of community's fabric

The family of Glen Jones, who was fatally bashed in his Featherston home, say they've been left devastated by his death.

Emergency services were called to Mr Jones' home in Fitzherbert St in the Wairarapa township, north of Wellington, just before midnight on Friday after he was found by his neighbour.

Mr Jones, 40, died in hospital after being severely beaten and a post-mortem examination showed he died from head injuries.

In a statement, Mr Jones' family said he loved his family and friends and will be especially missed by his nieces and nephews.

"He was part of the fabric of the Featherston community and lots of people looked out for him.

"We know that many people around town had a soft spot for 'Jonesy' and will sympathise with our grief."

Meanwhile, police have caught one of two men wanted in connection with Mr Jones' death.

Kristofer Jones, 23, who is not related to the victim, was arrested on State Highway 1 near Hunterville about 2am today, police said.

He appeared in Palmerston North District Court this afternoon charged with aggravated burglary and was remanded in custody to appear in Masterton District Court on Friday.

Police had also discovered in Levin a blue 1989 Mitsubishi Mirage they were looking for.

However, police are still looking for Hayden Ranson, 27, as they investigate the death of Mr Jones.

Two women, aged 22 and 32, and a 28-year-old man, have already appeared in Masterton District Court facing aggravated burglary charges related to the police homicide inquiry.

They were granted interim name suppression and will reappear on Friday.
