With Phil Goff set to resign as Labour leader tomorrow, David Parker and David Cunliffe are emerging as the frontrunners to take over.
But a couple of new names are being touted, too.
Normally politicians love being on the television but the front runners for Labour's leadership were not courting the cameras today.
3 News can confirm Mr Goff will resign tomorrow and a new leader may be installed before Christmas, but some want it put off until February.
Some MPs have told 3 News Mr Cunliffe is not overly popular amongst his caucus colleagues and that he let Mr Goff down during the campaign.
Following the Christchurch Press leaders’ debate, when Labour was meant to be getting Mr Goff up to speed with the finer details on costings, we're told Mr Cunliffe stayed away.
3 News was told he was sick in bed during a crucial time of the campaign.
List MP David Parker is thought to have the backing of some in the caucus and many around Mr Goff's office, but a question mark hangs over whether he has the presence needed to be leader.
Grant Robertson is being touted as a possible Parker deputy, something he wasn't ruling out yesterday.
But an outsider is also emerging - a third David - David Shearer.
He gave a speech today calling for reform of the party outlining how Labour needs to make some serious changes.
His issue is experience.
But tomorrow it is a done deal Mr Goff is gone. The options on offer are not overwhelming but Labour must pick one.
