Electronic Arts have announced a Battlefield 4 beta will be launched late next year.
The publishers of the critically acclaimed shooter series confirmed the Battlefield 4 news after it was leaked online via a Medal of Honor Warfighter trailer.
Access to the beta will be given exclusively to players that pre-order Medal of Honor Warfighter Limited Edition. Battlefield 3's last batch of downloadable content is scheduled for release in March 2013, just months before Battlefield 4's predicted release in the second half of that year.
A post on official website Battlefield.com states: “we’re not ready to talk about Battlefield 4 yet - in the meantime, we hope you will continue to enjoy Battlefield 3 … there is no further Battlefield 4 news at this point – remember, if you don’t see it published here, it’s just rumor and speculation.”
Battlefield 3 and Medal of Honor Warfighter both share the Frostbite 2 game engine, though EA say the two games will have distinctly different feels.
“Frostbite 2 is an amazingly powerful technology that challenges us to break the multiplayer mold,” says Greg Goodrich, Medal of Honor executive producer.
“The unique premise of global warfighters in Medal of Honor Warfighter has inspired us to pioneer new multiplayer concepts such as Fire Teams and the idea of having Tier 1 Operators from around the world go head-to-head in online competition.”
Medal of Honor Warfighter is set for a release October 26 on the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC.
