Battlestar Gallactica first hit television screens back in 1978 but thanks to the remake; a whole new generation has been able to enjoy the cylon’s attack on humanity.

While many thought it would flop, Generation Y was ready for more sci-fi and it went off, winning awards and getting a four-season run despite writers strikes.

A new version of the original show was always going to be a dodgy proposition, but the show’s creators managed to get it right.

“It has reverberated throughout the entire planet because it takes into focus, the entire existence of humanity. And therefore the show itself becomes a mirror to the entire planet - Earth, right now, 2009,” says actor James Edward Olmos.

The show comments on everything from the September 11 attacks to America’s three year occupation of Iraq, from the cunning perspective of their fictional sci-fi universe.

Now fans are happy because there is a whole new two hour movie called The Plan, which retells the first few seasons from an alternative point of view; many scenes already shot but never aired.

“In The Plan there are these scenes that you basically go back to the vault and re-cut them and put them in The Plan so you go, 'Wow. That's that scene but from someone else's perspective completely’,” says actor Michael Hogan.

For the Battlestar fan boy this movie is a dream come true. The writers say if it sells well they will make more, perhaps a warning to fans who are planning to download it.

The only downside for us Kiwis is that Lucy Lawless will not feature as a cylon.
