School children got the first glimpse of Lima Zoo's latest addition - a playful six-month-old Bengal tiger called Naysha. She has been raised by hand and bottle-fed by zookeepers since birth.

The curious big cat is still quite small as far as Bengal tigers are concerned. However, she has come a long way since being born into captivity weighing only 1.5kg.

Naysha's mother, Circe, rejected the little cub at birth. This prompted zoologists to take Naysha away from her mother and raise her by hand.

Now she is healthy and growing stronger everyday as she plays in her new habitat on display at the zoo.

Bengal tigers are endangered - some estimates say the wild population has dwindled to around 1,700 individuals that are dispersed throughout the Indian subcontinent
