Best Day Ever!

Wed, 01 Jul 2009 12:00a.m.

I had the best day ever today, well in terms of wedding planning that is!

Cast your mind back a couple of months and you may remember I was having dramas choosing between my two besties to fill one bridesmaid spot.

And let's not forget that there was also the trouble finding a wedding band that went with my slightly awkward engagement ring.

But I managed to solve two of my stickiest problems by 10.30 am this morning, and tick off another job that I hadn't even given much thought to yet!

It started with an email from one of my besties, Aimee, (the one who is getting married in March 2010).

Being in the car industry, she had asked her boss if there was any chance we could borrow two cars for our wedding, and luckily for us, her boss said yes!  So we now have two gorgeous Lexus cars for our wedding, courtesy of my bestie and Lexus of Wellington!

Seeing as she had swung this huge favour for us, I figured it'd be nice if I asked her to get ready with us on the big day, and drive me and my dad to the ceremony.

This meant I could ask my other bestie, Olivia, to be my second bridesmaid.  It was the perfect compromise; my two nearest and dearest friends will both be there to help make our big day possible.

First problem solved!

Problem two: I've still haven't found the perfect wedding ring.  In fact, I put it in the 'too hard' basket and gave up thinking about it for a while!

Deciding I couldn't ignore it forever, I popped into a small local manufacturing jeweller, and had them draw up a picture of the ring I wanted, and give me a realistic quote.  The quote came in better than I had expected, but it was still a heck of a lot more than we could really afford to spend.

I'd pretty much given up hope of finding something that wasn't custom made, but as I had cabin fever at work this morning I popped out to have another look around one of the chain stores, just in case...

Well wouldn't you know it, I found a ring that'd be perfect, and I really mean perfect – right down to all the little diamonds lining up perfectly with my engagement ring.  And the best part?  It was under $500!

Seeing as I'm planning on wearing this ring for the rest of my life, I'm thinking it over tonight.  But realistically, I'm heading back there tomorrow morning!

So my morning went: Bridesmaids?  Check!  Cars?  Check!  Wedding ring?  Check!

It’s such a great feeling when things finally start to fall into place!

I'm a 24 year old Wellingtonian preparing to marry my partner in crime on 30 Jan 2010.  In 2008 we got engaged, bought our first house and had our first child.  Instead of having 2009 off to recover, we're throwing ourselves head-first into wedding planning!  Did I mention we're trying to do it all for under 10K!?
