ACC is warning New Zealanders to take extra care this long Easter weekend, especially around eggs and rabbits.
Last year 7900 people injured themselves over the Easter weekend, while 470 people had accidents involving eggs or rabbits.
"Nearly half of all home injuries are caused by slips trips and falls, most commonly from steps, stairs and ladders," ACC spokesman Peter Wood said.
"With many of us on holiday over Easter or visiting other people's homes, being unfamiliar with the layout and conditions of the home can increase your chances of a fall."
Mr Wood advised people to keep stairs well-lit and clear of obstacles, put safety catches on cupboards with poisons or knives and clean up any spills immediately.
