The hagfish comes out on top once again

One of Earth’s longest surviving fish could hold the clue to developing a way to prevent a shark from attacking.

New Zealand scientists have released remarkable footage of the ancient hagfish as it repels a shark by excreting huge amounts of slime.

Researchers from Massey University and Te Papa have filmed the hagfish repelling different predators 14 times and wonder whether the slime can be synthesised.

The biggest problem with shark repellants is getting one that works before they shut there mouths on you, very hard to do when they can hit you at 50 or 60 km/hr.
