To be frank, their quality of life is rubbish

What do you want?

Sometimes it's the simplest questions that get the most telling answers.

Today, we asked exactly that question of people in the Christchurch suburb that's perhaps most likely to be bulldozed as a result of the earthquakes.

To be frank, their quality of life is rubbish.

Each of the earthquakes has flooded their homes with silt and mud, and even raw sewage.

Even smaller shocks do it now.

They've been using port-a-loos for months. They don't have water, and worse than that, they realise now they don't have a future - not in Bexley.

So they live in limbo, and where once spirit and optimism got them through, now they're barely getting through at all.

Today their local MP Lianne Dalziel called a street meeting, so we could ask the people of Bexley what they want.

Watch the video.

As a worker constantly in the worse hit suburbs, I find it hard to watch the news without getting angry. If you don't feel safe, get out. Rent a home.stay with friends or family. There is more to this than houses and property. How about thinking about the children that are to scared to sleep in their own beds. The elderly that still use portaloos. yes money is a big factor but the state of our children is by far more important than money. People are upset because they don't have answers but they too can help give answers. Yes it could be your home but at the end of the day life and limb is more important than dollars and cents.

I am in Aranui, not far from bexley and I feel for you guys you were hit hard. Life in the hood is not easy we are the only house on our street that has munted drains, we have been told by housing nz not to use any water at all, that means no washing no showers, no doing dishes coz everytime we do we have sewage flowing into our front yard. We have rang them many times and have been told that it is the councils job to fix the drains. Well we all know how long that will take to fix. We also have no fire now and just a heater to heat a 2 story 3 bedroom place, which eats up the power. Since feb we have never seen 1 red cross, army, ccc or eqc member. We dont even have portaloo's down our street. We feel forgotten.

I think alot of people are so quick to play the blame game. You need to understand that the likes of John Key, Bob Parker and Brownlee are banging thier heads against the wall that other people have made. Give them a break, they are making progress just a few suburbs that still havent been delt with. Remember that Christchurch is more than these few suburbs and that WE the Christchurch people are helping these struggling people as well. Keep your head up to those of you in Bexley and surrounding suburbs.

Well I saw his mouth moving but he said nothing. It is interesting that all the people here know what ares will not be built on. We got damage in Sept, in Feb and now in June. Do they think it is getting better? The engineers have proven their incompetence many times over the past 9 months and it is high time the Governmant let us go....

Burwood is just as bad. I want out now. No toliets for six months, we have water but we can't use it because our drains don't work. Tried to get a drainlayer to help us they told us they can't come out to us till we get sewage. We are never going to get sewage. We called every bloody one in the phone book. Really, really depressed, just want to walk away from our house. Stupid red cross lady just knocked on our door to ask if she can help. Why offer if all you can do is ask stupid questions. I don't need a councilor I need out of here.

Firstly thank you Campbell for allowing the people of Bexley to have a voice, the street you were standing on was home to me for 3 years and the happiest I had ever been, however after Feb 22 I escaped with my family to Australia as my home was green stickered but certainly not livable for adults let alone Children, even here we are struggling to start again when we had to cut all losses just to survive, my heart goes out to all the residents in Bexley I wish I could come home.
