Beyonce has defended her decision to employ extra security guards at the hospital where she gave birth, insisting she needed added protection for the sake of her daughter.

The superstar singer and her husband Jay-Z welcomed their first child, daughter Blue Ivy, at the Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City on January 7.

However, other parents at the maternity unit claimed their bodyguards caused problems by refusing access to other patients and their families.

Beyonce has now spoken about the drama for the first time, insisting she was just trying to make sure her baby was kept safe.

According to Britain's Star magazine, she says, "Everybody who we wanted to see her, saw her. Security was very tight, but not just for the sake of it, it was for the security of our daughter."

The R&B star goes on to insist her new baby will have a normal childhood, despite being born into such a famous family.

She adds, "At home, she'll be part of a normal, loving family with a loving mum, a loving dad, a loving aunt and loving grandparents, just like any other kid."

Beyonce says, "Everybody who we wanted to see her, saw her." but doesnt seem to understand that wasnt the problem. The problem was that their security guards stopped other parents and their families from moving around the unit and visiting their newborns. You would think that she could understand having just given birth how difficult it would have been for other parents to be stopped from seeing their newborns. So much for normal!!!
