Mastodon

1:45pm - 2:30pm - Blue Stage

By Dan Satherley

Mastodon – the metal band it's okay for indie kids to like – are making their Big Day Out debut in 2010.

Not for the faint of heart, or the faint of ears, the Atlanta-based Mastodon have risen to the top of the metal ranks with a series of critically-acclaimed albums, each selling more than the last whilst never selling out.

The group's latest album, Crack The Skye, is described by the band as an "out-of-body experience" and made top 10 lists worldwide – even in mainstream magazines like Time.

They're on the Blue Stage at 1:45pm – a cruelly early time for a band as powerful as Mastodon. Midnight Youth are going to have a tough job following them.

Here's a clip from Crack The Skye called 'Oblivion'. You see what I mean now?
