@DaveD If you research the annual reports for the charity you will find they haven't brought into the books the value of all of the items received for free, and then forwarded to children in need. For instance, shoes, raincoats, food etc - where there was no financial transaction taking place, the transaction was omitted from the financial accounts. I don't believe they will make the same mistake next time. There was a later story in the media about this, but it didn't get the same publicity as the original stories regarding their financial accounts. Now they have to spend more on administration putting a value on everything received for free....shame. Worthy cause though - poverty in NZ is real and it is the children who often suffer. Good on KidsCan.

I agree with you, if you read the article they got corporate sponsorship BEFORE the event to cover a good portion of running costs for the telethon. No sponsorship no telethon, no telethon, no 1.6 mill for needy kids. Great result I say and a very worth while charity.

Whoever the previous comment is from should be ashamed there has to be costs whenever you raise funds. Get real and get on board.
Great charity and great result.

Is $1.6m cheap or expensive for the scale of production? Spending 1.6m to raise 1.6m - is that economical? Cynicism aside, it was pretty good telly. So thats the telethon funds explained, but what about last years charity report which showed only a tiny amount of money donated to KC actually gets spent on the shoes/raincoats etc?

80 cents in every dollar is very well done!!! Good to see prudent financial management of funds raised. I bet Telethons of old did not have such a great return. Go KidsCan!! Go TV3!! Go the kids!!! I watched Sunrise this morning and I like the fact that KidsCan plans to do the Big Night In again to help more kids and that they will also share the love with another charity who needs assistance.

Wow 80 cents is great, glad to see its not going to admin. This charity is doing great work, well done TV3 for supporting it!

Does not sound liek a scam to me. I'm glad I donated and I think it is a great result that other charites should aspire to. 80 cents in every dollar is fantastic!
