Concept albums litter the history of popular music, but perhaps the grandest ever has just been released.
It is not only suggested it will change music, but also rescue it in the face of free online content.
As unpredictable in life as in art, the financial crisis and losing her voice after her first album four years ago saw Bjork pledge she would return to be more different than ever before.
“On so many different levels there were messages that all the old systems didn’t work anymore, you’ve got to clear the table and start again,” she says.
So Biophilia is the album that has been billed the saviour of music. The $13 album has 10 songs – and 10 iPad apps. The apps allow the listener to be involved in the making of music with Bjork.
