It wasn’t exactly a massive reception that greeted the world champion Black Ferns women’s rugby team when they hit Auckland Airport this afternoon, but those that were there showed plenty of vocal appreciation.
Thirteen of the team were welcomed home by a group of about 40 family and friends. An impromptu haka for the team was spear-headed by captain Melissa Ruscoe.
Ruscoe said the team had been celebrating for two days, but the win felt ''more real'' now that they are back on home soil.
Jock Hobbs, former chairman of the New Zealand Rugby Union, was also there to welcome the team as was New Zealand Rugby Union vice-president and former All Black Bryan Williams.
