National is touting its environmental credentials as it holds the annual conference for its 'Bluegreens' wing.
The environmentalists in National, headed by 18 of the party's 58 MPs, are meeting in Taupo to discuss how to promote both environmental and economic concerns.
Environment and Climate Change Minister Nick Smith says he will be talking about how to use financial incentives rather than 'nanny state' regulations to achieve the Government's goals.
He says examples include home insulation and solar water heating subsidies, rather than a ban on incandescent lightbulbs, despite Green Party opposition.
Labour MP Charles Chauvel says National is backsliding on climate change and Bluegreen delegates will be hoping the conference is behind locked doors.
