Emergency services have extinguished a blaze aboard a small boat in Wellington Harbour.

The fire started on a pleasure boat near Pencarrow Heard around 2.40 this afternoon. It was put out by police around an hour later.

The boat’s sole occupant had jumped overboard and was rescued by crew on the police boat Lady Elizabeth II.

It is unknown whether he has burns.

A large pool of black smoke was seen coming from the vessel.
