Police are awaiting forensic testing results to determine whether a body found in the weekend is that of missing Hastings man Johnny Wright.

The 50-year-old was reported missing last month and when his flat was cleared, his blood was found on the lounge wall, floor and ceiling.

Detective Senior Sergeant Dave de Lange says police found a body in Eskdale, north of Napier, after a tip-off.

“It’s been a slow, detailed inquiry which is still ongoing. The team investigating the disappearance of Mr Wright worked over the weekend in regarding the body being found… so it’s just an ongoing investigation.”

Police are awaiting post-mortem results, forensic testing before they can identify the body. They say this could take several days.

There have been no arrests in relation to Mr Wright's disappearance.
