Wellington police are investigating a body found near Te Papa museum

Wellington police are investigating the discovery of a body on the city's waterfront.

The body was found, by a member of the public, in a drain near the Te Papa museum carpark just before 1pm on Sunday.

Police central communications shift commander Ian Harris told NZ Newswire the matter was being treated as suspicious.

Police have cordoned off an area near the site.
