The body of a young Asian male found floating near Auckland Harbour Bridge on Saturday remains unidentified.

Police say no one fitting the description of the man - thought to be in his 20s - has been reported missing.

They said in a statement today that the body was retrieved on Saturday morning by a group of wakeboaders in a boat.

"It's unlikely the man had been in the water for much more than a few hours," police said.

As the tide had been going out at the time, he was likely to have floated from the inner harbour area.

He is of thin build and was wearing an Adidas tee shirt with a large red, yellow and green logo on the front. He was also wearing a single chain necklace with a ring attached to it.
