The latest offering from one of India's most well-known movie studios is hoping to catch on the country's obsession with the game of cricket but it comes packaged with typical Bollywood song and dance.

Dil Bole Hadippa, meaning Heart Goes Hurrah is directed by Anurag Singh and produced by Aditya Chopra under the Yashraj Films banner.

It stars Rani Mukerji and Shahid Kapoor in the lead roles in a story about a young woman who pretends to be a man to join an all-male cricket team.

At a news conference in Mumbai on Monday, the lead actors Rani Mukerji and Shahid Kapoor shared their experiences during the filming of the movie.

Dil Bole Hadippa is the story of Veera, (played by Rani), who lives in a small village but dreams of becoming a big star.

She works in a local theatre group but wants to play cricket in the big league.

Rohan, played by Shahid Kapoor, is the captain of a county cricket team in England.

Rohan returns to India to captain his father's cricket team which has been losing consecutively for the last 8 years.

In a village where girls don't play cricket, Veera has to put on a turban and beard and become a man to fulfil her dreams of playing.

Her brilliance on the field earns her a place in Rohan's team and Veera Kaur becomes Veer Pratap Singh.

Both Rani and Shahid said they hoped the romantic comedy with a Punjabi flavour will also give a message to promote women's cricket.

Rani, who plays Veera as well as Veer, a Sikh boy, said she had to undergone a complete makeover for the film, losing weight to appear more athletic and 6 months of training to learn how to play cricket.

"Athletes have a very toned body and they are very fitness conscious. I wanted to look my part first but in the bargain what happened is I started enjoying my weight loss and I started enjoying my toned body, and it started working for the movie."

The movie's music, inspired by the high-spirited Punjabi Bhangra is already topping the charts.

It has been composed by music director Pritam while the lyrics are by Jaideep Sahni.

The film is slated for commercial release on September 18, 2009
