Wellington Zoo's set to unleash a party today, with the guest of honour - Happy Feet, set to depart.

The wayward Antarctic bird's been calling the capital home for the last month, after washing ashore on the Kapiti Coast.

Today will be a blur of penguin face painting and dress ups.

Wellington Zoo's Kate Baker says it will be a good send-off before tomorrow's voyage south

Ms Baker says Happy Feet will have a GPS tracking device installed this afternoon, so that people can track his progress in the weeks to come.

happyfeet is broken hearted because his mirror can't go with him. the poor guy is in love and anyone knows it can be tuff when it ends. it was a cruel trick to let him get the breeding feeling and then throw him into a cold ocean alone. it would not surprise me if he turned up back in wellington looking for that penguin in the mirror.
