US rapper Bow Wow has refused to speak to 3 News about why he snubbed a Powhiri at Auckland Airport last night.
Bow Wow is in New Zealand for a concert tomorrow night, but stunned fans when he ignored a Maori welcome in his honour, and opted instead to go shopping at a Vodafone store
It was supposed to be a welcome fit for the top dog, but it turned into a diplomatic howler for the rapper.
The kapa haka group waiting at the airport was left stunned, member Aaron Henare says.
“He was like ‘oh I don’t want to f-ing doing this, i dont want any part in this at all, i just got off a flight, I just want to get out of here’.”
Bow Wow left to the Vodafone store 10m away where he was informed he'd broken Maori custom.
“And they were like ‘oh well can they do it now’,” Mr Henare says. “When the lady asked me I said ‘does this reaction of our group look like we want to do it now?’”
Like others reporting his arrival I tweeted this last night:
"Bow Wow arrived in AKL, ignored Powhiri, walked straight to Vodafone shop. Kapahaka group refused to redo it and went home."
But that tweet saw 3 News blacklisted when Bow Wow appeared at a West Auckland mall today.
His minders said Bow Wow was furious and he had powerful friends like Nicki Minaj and Snoop Lion in his corner.
However when Snoop visited New Zealand, he quite enjoyed his powhiri.
Bow Wow's promoters said he had been given a tough time at customs and didn't know how significant the powhiri was.
The rapper has since taken to Facebook to respond to the situation, and this story.
"I hate when a mafuka try to speak on shit when they wasn't there. Screw that reporter for running her mouth. How bout you talk about how i signed every autograph for every fan in that mall today. Or how about taking pictures w/ the under aged kids who cant get in my show tomorrow because they not 18. How about the great interviews i gave new zealand press outlets here today at my in store because
they were more professional than the bullshit reporter stalking me in the airport with her microphone all in my face after a 4 hr flight. You think ima stop for you? i already dont like "Some" Media Outlets and this why i dont do interviews. Not one of my fans complaining. They love me! Just like i love them! As long as "My Fans" the ones who bought them tix to my show, the ones who sells out my concerts, i came for them. Long as they smiling thats all i care about. So save the bullshit. Its YMCMB and My New Zealand fans are fuck'n awesome and have been great. I ve been able to get out enjoy the city, nice spots to eat. he women are just how i like em. Far as im concerned im enjoying my time like crazy!! Tomorrow will be a packed house, full of love and positive vibes. I just might not allow no reporters to my show. Just photographers. hats just how the Dog feeling. WORD!" he wrote.

All you people must not even have the smallest amount of respect for anyone. This kapa haka group all did this in their own time and so everyone is on the same page , We don't do powhiri for everyone that comes to NZ, its only for people that haven't stepped foot on NZ before so thats that and if he had time to go and buy him a new phone im pretty sure hes got at least 10 minutes to go through a powhiri. Imagine if that was you and your family that he walked passed, your all ready to greet him and then he just totally ignores you, im sure you would feel the same way the kapa haka group felt, Bow Wow could at least give a small apology or someone else on his behalf or someone apologise to the kapa haka group. Bow Wow, nothing really sounds so WOW now aye.

Whose idea was it anyway? If you're offered one, how do you turn it down?

How is it anti-maori? New Zealand isn't the centre of the world (no matter how many times we are told it is). I think he was just tired after a massive flight.

@kattyratz. How is this a Maori country? Was it Maori that made nz how it is today? And maybe you should educate yourself Because the non Maori people in this country do have a strong culture and a long history to go with it. Maori history dates back how far, do you even know where your people come from and not just your Maori side. So don't go around calling every non Maori culturally insensitive when most Maori are the ones that are culturally insensitive towards everyone else and towards themselves.

Who the hell does he think he is???? wrote:
Well "His Fans" have a cultural background in this country, full stop. It's not as if that is a secret, they were showing respect. Clearly something he lacks in all forms, as an apology from him is like pulling teeth. He deserves every ounce of the bad reflective reporting he's got so far, and the hard time thru customs is just a bonus as far as I can see, and if there is any backlash from the public for his incredibly bad behavior and attitude in general, then so be it. Anyone that mouths off like he does, and behaves as he does, isn't really worth it. "You think ima gonna pay money to see you?!!" No thanks. Sooner he gets on a plane out of here, the better. And this is coming from a member of the public and NOT a reporter!!!

Didn't realise there was so much ignorance and very little intelligence left in NZ: half of you cannot spell for a start and majority have an opinion on Maori traditions - so unless your Maori keep your biased opinions to yourself. What is wrong with immature, talentless celebrities doing their own research on the countries they are planning to travel to? Oh an yep kapa haka groups have nothing better to do than to sit around waiting for some no name to come over to welcome them into a Maori country which is what a lot of you migrants seem to forget - NZ is a Maori country so if you don't like it go back to your own cultureless country and take your talentless, rude and arrogant celebrities with you. From a staunch Maori Wahine.
