Box Wars is a bizarre phenomenon that began in Melbourne and has spread all over the world.

Described as a combination of a fight club, mosh pit and an arts and crafts convention, the Box Wars hit Auckland for the second time.

Kyle Greenwood is responsible for Box Wars as far a field as Edinburgh, but it is not just the Scottish who have acquired a taste.

"There's been Germany, Estonia, Finland, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, America," Mr Greenwood listed. "England, Scotland, but not yet Ireland."

Since its inception in 2002, Box Wars has spread like wildfire because of the internet. Mr Greenwood says the popularity could be the appeal of creating something specifically to be destroyed.

And for those worried about sustaining injuries in Box Wars, Mr Greenwood says the worst he has had is just a broken nose.
