A 15-year-old boy who allegedly crashed a stolen car into a Masterton house during a police pursuit earlier this morning faces numerous charges.
The boy, driving a Saab, was spotted by police acting suspiciously on Villa Street near the Waipoua River at about 2am this morning. The vehicle took off when approached.
The car was pursued along several Masterton streets as police followed several hundred metres behind.
While trying to take a sharp turn from High Street into Judds Road, the driver smashed through a concrete block fence and into a house. The vehicle caught fire.
The 18-year-old passenger remained by the car while the 15-year-old driver fled the scene.
He was found a short time later by a police dog.
The boy was arrested and charged with unlawful taking, dangerous driving, failing to stop and driving while disqualified.
The house was significantly damaged.
Police are not yet able to say whether the 18-year-old will face charges.
