A nine-year-old boy has been found dead in Raetihi this morning.
Police say the child was found dead at his home but the cause of death remains unexplained.
"A family member discovered the boy was deceased and notified police and ambulance," says Det Snr Sgt Keith Borrell.
Police are in the process of interviewing witnesses and say they hope to have a post-mortem completed by late this evening.
