Rodney Hide will retain his ministerial portfolios if Prime Minister John Key accepts new ACT leader Don Brash's recommendations today.
Dr Brash says Mr Hide is working on steering important legislation through Parliament.
Mr Hide would keep his portfolios because he was working on important pieces of legislation that were high priority for ACT to get through Parliament, said Dr Brash.
The legislation was part of Dr Brash's 2025 Taskforce regulations and undertaken as part of Mr Hide's role as Minister of Local Government and Regulatory Reform.
The new ACT leader in waiting said he was not concerned Mr Hide would act up if his portfolios were removed, even saying Mr Hide voted for him as leader.
However, 3 News political editor Duncan Garner says Mr Hide has stood up to Dr Brash, adamant that he would cause trouble for the new leader if his portfolios were stripped.
This is a small victory for Mr Hide, who was reluctant to lose out again to Dr Brash. When questioned though, Mr Hide was unable to remember any details about the legislation he was working on.
John Boscawen will drop his ministerial portfolios, but will remain deputy leader of the party.
Mr Hide will retire at this November's election, so will definitely not be standing in Epsom again.
MP Hilary Calvert has been appointed the party's whip.
Mr Boscawen will take on the role of ACT Party leader in Parliament.
