The Breakers gather to celebrate their 82-74 win over the Hawks

The Breakers were looking to rediscover that winning feeling when they took on the Wollongong Hawks tonight.

Sitting top of the table but with a tough run to the playoffs, tonight's game with the eighth place Hawks was simply a must-win.

Desperate to avoid back to back defeats to the Hawks, the Breakers vowed to be aggressive from the outset.

But the Hawks, all but out of playoff contention, were determined to ruin the Breakers fun. They led by two at quarter time.

Tom Abercrombie showed glimpses of what he is capable of.

But the Breakers certainly were not at their championship winning best in the first half.

An eight-point Hawks lead had the North Shore Events Centre quiet before a crowd favourite got them cheering again.

CJ Bruton helped reduce the deficit to two at half time, Wollongong leading 40-38 and they were determined to keep their lead through tough defence and easy offence.

But the third quarter belonged to Cedric Jackson.

The Breakers finished the third up by two and Abercrombie set about increasing that lead.

He finished on 25 points as the Breakers ran out 82-74 victors. A win which leaves them dancing a game ahead of second placed Perth.
