The Breakers host the Perth Wildcats this Thursday at the North Shore Event Centre with more than just top spot in the Australian NBL on the line - the game could also be a preview for the looming finals series.

The Breakers have four wins in a row and are destined to return to the playoffs, but there's no signs of complacency on their training court as the team prepares for their big match.

‘Obviously we're probably the two top teams at the moment playing the best basketball, so it promises to be a really good encounter,” says forward Thomas Abercrombie.

The winner on Thursday could take the edge into the playoffs mix. The Breakers are tied with the Wildcats at the top of the table and home court advantage for the finals could be decided by the teams’ head to head record. But with nine matches still left in the season, the Breakers are doing their best not to think of the playoffs.

“I think one thing about this team is we're pretty grounded no matter what's happened and we keep focused game by game, if we get looking to far ahead that's when things start to slip so we've got to take it game by game and let the championship come when it does,” says forward Gary Wilkinson.

After selling out Vector Arena last week, the Breakers return to their traditional home for Thursday night. While the crowd will only be half the size, the smaller venue won't lack intensity. Whether the team will play their finals basketball at Vector or the NSEC is still to be decided. For now the only goal for the Breakers is getting there.
