By Kate Rodger

Written by and starring Saturday Night Live star Kirsten Wiig, Bridesmaids is the story of best friends, one getting married, the other her maid of honour.

The stresses of the big day take their toll on their friendship, especially when a new best friend makes her presence felt.

It’s a story full of very authentic observational comedy, focusing on the politics of girlfriends, their boyfriends, and their bodily functions.

I confess I laughed like a hyena through this entire film, even at bits that usually don’t tickle my funny bone.

Humour aside, the characters here are so real and well-rounded, that even the feel-good moments feel refreshingly non-cliched.

Boys – don’t be scared of this either, it’s not a just chickflick, there's plenty for you too.

Four stars.

This has got to be the most over-rated film I have seen in a long time. While parts were cleverly written, other scenes were so crass all humour was lost to vulgarity. The hype related to this movie is just that - hype. Don't be surprised if you feel disappointed.
