Britney Spears has been given permission to auction off her 2008 MTV Video Music Awards dress to raise cash for the Haiti earthquake relief effort.

During a two-hour conservatorship update meeting with Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner Reva Goetz on Friday, Spears' request to sell off the silver gown was granted.

The court also granted her father, Jamie, authority to get rid of clothing and property that was used during last year's Circus tour. The items are described as being "valueless" and occupying several storage containers.

No other changes to the conservatorship agreement have been announced.

Jamie Spears won control of his daughter's personal and financial affairs in 2008 after the singer suffered a much-publicised meltdown and was hospitalised.
