Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar teams up with his favourite leading lady Penelope Cruz for his latest film Broken Embraces, a story within a story, and one heavy with passion both possessive and pure.
A blind film director delves back into his own past, and his secrets and those of the people around him are slowly revealed.
Cruz is fabulous as she always is under Almodóvar’s watchful generous eye, and while this latest outing of theirs didn’t resonate as much as their last, Volver, it was still a very pleasurable experience.
Three and a half stars.
