Brownlee made Minister for Earthquake Recovery

Gerry Brownlee has been brought in as a trouble-shooter during the rebuild.

He has been given the post of Minister for Earthquake Recovery, and will be based in Christchurch.

The Government is still looking to appoint a special commissioner for the rebuilding effort, but Mr Key says he wants Mr Brownlee to cut through the bureaucracy.

Mr Key is visiting the region again this afternoon and says he will be talking to the Canterbury mayors today about a commissioner.

AUDIO: Marcus Lush talks with the Minister of Economic Development, Gerry Brownlee, about being appointed to oversee Canterbury's earthquake recovery.
