Burger King has just unleashed a new monster burger, criticised as “a heart attack on a plate".

The new four-meat pattie, five-layered cheese burger dubbed the "Quad Stacker" is being slammed by New Zealand dieticians, due to its phenomenal fat content.

The Burger King creation contains 1000 calories and 68 grams of fat.

ABC nutritionist Angela Beryl says it's an extremely large amount of fat for just one burger.

“Ideally you should only be having one to two servings of meat a day, and a serve of red is what fits into the palm of your hand.”

Australian fast-food joints have been subject to criticism recently - because they're offering similar overloaded burgers.

1000 calories and only 68g of fat? That's nothing. I can walk down the street (oh sorry, drive my fat yankee ass down the street) and go to any number of places that make that look tame, and I can't even get the 1400 calorie 101g of fat 2/3 pound monster thick burger here in New York.

Don't follow in America's footsteps. Avoid this thing. It'll only lead to bigger fatter burgers. Food joints will try to "out bad" each other and then it'll be too late.

I'll admit I've eaten my fair share of BK's double, triple and quad stackers. I ate myself right into hypertension, high cholesterol, and damn near Type II diabetes. I've dropped 60 pounds, have another 50 to go and then we'll see how effective a combination of weight loss and healthy foods have on these conditions.

People can eat what they want to, unless its illegal. Either way they could choose to buy this burger from burger king or make one themselves out of 4 regular cheeseburgers.

Nice to read a 'lighter side' article. To be honest I am glad to see something like this, it seems some of the foods I used to enjoy have all been hijacked by fat people. Lite this and less fat that and more light this... Seems like I am paying the same but thanks to fat people I am getting less! I have yet to confirm this but I used to love Fresh and Fruity yogurt, but now it seems the full cream which was great doesn't exist anymore! Its lite or more lite. So yeah... can fat people stop taking my food please.

When I was a kid growing up, my family regarded fast food as a special treat. We'd go to McDonalds or KFC for birthdays (we're from Malaysia, if that helps to explain why it was "special"). I think it's fine if someone eats a 1000 cal burger every few months, it's when people start regarding it as everyday food that it becomes a problem. This monster burger isn't the worst thing about fast food marketing IMHO, it's things like the $5 meals (burger, fries, 22oz soft drink with tons of sugar) sold as "value meals" that are killing people.

Hey, just because they make it doesn't force anyone to eat it. If it's on the market, fine, people might buy it. If people don't buy it, it will be taken off the market with no hand-wringing by nanny-state alarmists. Just that simple. You don't like it, don't eat it. You like it, eat it. Or do some people just have the need to control other peoples' lives?

Dieticians, real dieticians, work mostly for the pet food industry. Seems it pays more, and not so many odd bodkins with pet theories about food. The record of the other kind. 1) Coffee is bad for you. (anything is, if not done in moderation, by the way. Even Oxygen will kill you). Coffee has the highest content of anti-oxydents in our normal diet, over ANY other of our normal foods. 2) Asperin is dangerous. This was promoted by Tylenol, and pushed by doctors, who got it for free and sold it for a staunch premium. The truth? More liver damage done by Acetaminophen (Tylenol) than ANY other item in our diet. (that includes alcohol) 3) MSG. In any population, about 2% of the population might react to almost any potential item. Such was true of MSG, until some dietician said it was bad for you. In any population today,if something is put in the media as 'bad'... The next day, and forever 20% of the population will have all the symptoms. (Like women with prostate problems, after a news article on the subject- and the reverse holds true with men and some mentioned female problems) Based on the dietician's ill researched theory, The FDA banned MSG, cyclamates, and saccharin. Of the three, only MSG had an open ended proof that there was a problem, and it would kill people. The Chinese have been using it for over 4,000 years! and the Chinese population is almost wiped out!! When is the last time you saw a person of Chinese ancestry. Almost extinct! (if you missed the point, that is called sarcasm). Better still, the same dieticians tell you to eat more soy bean! and soy products!! Very Healthy, you know. Guess where MSG comes from.... hehehehe
