A bus with flames spewing out the back has been photographed on the northwestern motorway in Auckland.
The photograph was taken near the St Luke's offramp.
The fire service were notified at 7:46am, and told 3 News only the driver was on board at the time, and no one was hurt.
Police northern communication shift manager Steve Smith says when crews arrived, the bus was well ablaze.
"It blocked the motorway for a short time," says Mr Smith. "Obviously being peak hour traffic at the time of the morning, it caused a bit of chaos. We've still got one truck off with the bus… they're not treating it as suspicious."
The bus has now been shifted to the side of the road to allow traffic to pass.
NZ Bus told 3 News the bus was not in service at the time of the fire. It has been towed back to the company's base in Swanson, and a full investigation will be carried out.
The bus company says it could be a few days before the cause of the fire is known.
The driver, who was unharmed, did everything correctly according to NZ Bus spokesman Shane McMahon.
