An eight-year-old girl remains in critical condition in Auckland’s Starship Hospital after an accident between a logging truck and a school bus yesterday afternoon.

There were 35 children on board of which six suffered serious injuries.

Twelve-year-old Anaru Smith spoke to 3 News about the moment he "flew" out the window of the bus.

The bus driver was the grandfather of the critically injured child and there were three children from one family on board.

In the moments after the crash, when all was horror and confusion and panic, one of the “big kids” took control.

Campbell Live talks to the 15-year-old hero.
