Unions representing more than 900 bus drivers return to the mediation table today in an effort to resolve a pay dispute which caused commuter chaos on Auckland roads earlier this month.

The drivers' notice of a work to rule over a wage claim was met by a lockout by NZ Bus and 80,000 passengers and 10,000 students had to find other ways to get to work and to school.

The impasse continued for a week before the unions lifted their work to rule and the company withdrew the lockout so that new talks could begin.

But the unions have warned that the work to rule could be re-imposed if no settlement was reached.
