Police have arrested and charged two men after shots were fired at a cyclist and bus in Christchurch today.

A single shot was fired at a cyclist around 3pm this afternoon, at the intersection of Colombo St and Bealey Ave, Detective Senior Sergeant Virginia Le Bas said.

Just over half an hour later shots were fired from a vehicle at a bus, which had school children on board, travelling on Sawyers Arms Rd.

Three large safety windows were smashed. It is understood no one was injured.

A 17-year-old man, believed to be the driver of the vehicle, will appear in court next Tuesday on an outstanding warrant to arrest.

Police have recovered a CO2 gas powered air gun.
