The business sector is welcoming Government moves to boost apprenticeship training.

Skills and Employment Minister Steven Joyce has announced changes to the industry training system he says will produce more skilled and qualified workers.

The existing support scheme is being extended to cover all apprentices, industry training organisations will have to deliver better performance and there will be an improved funding scheme.

BusinessNZ chief executive Phil O'Reilly says skill shortages are a constraint in many sectors.

"Employers consistently voice their need for quality, relevant skills and these changes will help deliver this," he said.
