A mistake by Mercury Energy could cost one of their customers a massive $55,000.
That's the size of a bill that has been sent out to Coromandel couple Gary and Judy Inglis, to make up for incorrect metre readings stretching back more than two years.
The couple run a bar in Whitianga, but they say they are not paying for the mistake.
Mr Inglis says if the courts force them to pay the full amount, it will eat up more than a year's profits.
