Margarine vs. butter. Natural vs. man made. I personally would pick anything from nature over something man made. Besides butter just tastes better. Especially over popcorn. It is important to eat it in moderation though. Proper nutrition is essential in maintaining proper function. As I work with patients in the treatment of migraines I do talk about eating properly. Processed foods should be avoided (I do believe that margarine falls into that category). http://www.themigrainedoctor.com
This is a quote from Martha Grogan, M.D. from mayoclinic.com "Margarine is made from vegetable oils, so it contains no cholesterol. Margarine is also higher in "good" fats — polyunsaturated and monounsaturated — than butter is. These types of fat help reduce low-density lipoprotein (LDL), or "bad," cholesterol, when substituted for saturated fat. Butter, on the other hand, is made from animal fat, so it contains cholesterol and high levels of saturated fat" And my marg has a heart foundation tick on it so it seems to depend on who you ask
This suprisingly was in my email this morning.Interesting readingMargarine was originally manufactured to fatten turkeys. When it killed the turkeys, the people who had put all the money into the research wanted a payback so they put their heads together to figure out what to do with this product to get their money back. It was a white substance with no food appeal so they added the yellow colouring and sold it to people to use in place of butter. How do you like it? They have come out with some clever new flavourings.... DO YOU KNOW.. The difference between margarine and butter? Read on to the end...gets very interesting! Both have the same amount of calories. Butter is slightly higher in saturated fats at 8 grams; compared to 5 grams for margarine. Eating margarine can increase heart disease in women by 53% over eating the same amount of butter, according to a recent Harvard Medical Study. Eating butter increases the absorption of many other nutrients in other foods. Butter has many nutritional benefits where margarine has a few and only because they are added! Butter tastes much better than margarine and it can enhance the flavours of other foods. Butter has been around for centuries where margarine has been around for less than 100 years . And now, for Margarine.. Very High in Trans fatty acids. Triples risk of coronary heart disease ... Increases total cholesterol and LDL (this is the bad cholesterol) and lowers HDL cholesterol, (the good cholesterol) Increases the risk of cancers up to five times.. Lowers quality of breast milk. Decreases immune response. Decreases insulin response.. And here's the most disturbing fact.... HERE IS THE PART THAT IS VERY INTERESTING! Margarine is but ONE MOLECULE away from being PLASTIC... and shares 27 ingredients withPAINT These facts alone were enough to have me avoiding margarine for life and anything else that is hydrogenated (this means hydrogen is added, changing the molecular structure of the substance). You can try this yourself: Purchase a tub of margarine and leave it open in your garage or shaded area. Within a couple of days you will notice a couple of things: * no flies, not even those pesky fruit flies will go near it (that should tell you something) * it does not rot or smell differently because it has no nutritional value ; nothing will grow on it. Even those teeny weeny microorganisms will not a find a home to grow. Why? Because it is nearly plastic ... Would you melt your Tupperware and spread that on your toast? Share This With Your Friends.....(If you want to butter them up')! Chinese Proverb: When someone shares something of value with you and you benefit from it, you have a moral obligation to share it with others. Pass the BUTTER PLEASE Its always better to go natural
Both margatine and butter (raw or pasteurised) are not good for humans to consume. Most humans become lactose intolerant early in life and casein protein is also problematic for humans. Cow's milk is for cows and we should get our calcium from the good old green stuff just like the cows do! Vegetable oils should be consumed as part of the vegetable they come from - not extracted from it and coating other foods. I think that eating raw, whole plant foods is probably the best diet and therefore butter and marg have no place on our table.
Hi John I saw your show tonight and was astounded there's still a question about whether butter is better for you than margarine. I was a relieved to see by the panel of comedians discussing it that it wasn't a serious question, but I wonder just how many of your viewers know how bad margarine really is for you If you're interested to learn more about the difference between butter and margarine, here's an article by a well respected doctor on the cutting edge of health and nutritional research, Dr Mercola http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2001/03/31/butter.aspx The article even gives us a plug (NZ dairy :-) cheers jaguar
I am amazed that anyone can still believe that margarine is a human food. Hydrogenated vegetable oils are the real killers, along with excess highly refined carbohydrates. Butter, especially raw cream butter, is a very healthy natural food, of benefit to all people and has especial benefit for arthritis sufferers. The kind of margarine sold in NZ is banned in most European nations, and only sold to the lowest economic classes in the poorest countries of the world. NZ's supposed "nutritionists" are decades behind the play in their knowledge of lipid nutrients. Saturated fats are an essential nutrient, and their demonisation is wholly due to the machinations of the food production multinationals who can make far greater profits by selling their synthetic and poisonous creations at the expense of natural healthy foods. Anyone wishing to become accurately informed of the benefits and dangers of dietary fats and oils, should read the books and published scientific papers of at least the following three highly respected researchers. 1. Udo Erasmus (Fats that heal, Fats that kill, etc) 2. Johanna Budwig 3. Mary Enig No thinking person who has ever seriously investigated the dangers of the trans-fats produced by the Hydrogenation of vegetable oils, would ever consider them to be acceptable substances for human consumption. They exist only to make money for "food" companies, and have no place in the human diet.
A comment on your Butter segment tonight. Now you may want to do another segment on this subject due to the fact you can not buy Margarine anywhere in NZ. It is all table spread. I believe table spread is not covered by any regulations. Both Butter and Marge have contents regulated. I think your experts should have known this. Regards to a great program team.
