Former All Black Byron Kelleher has issued a rambling apology after being arrested for drink driving and assault.
The 32-year-old has been sidelined from his team Toulouse since the incident which left him with a broken arm.
Today audio of his apology surfaced on the internet.
“I've made a fault. I’ve done a mistake, but people make mistakes in life,” he said in the clip.
Kelleher’s first mistake was getting behind the wheel with French girlfriend Julie Noves after a night of boozing in Toulouse then driving straight into a Porsche.
“It was a circumstance that happened and can happen quite often with regard to vehicles meeting each other on the road,” he says.
Kelleher's second mistake was attempting to flee the scene and once cornered by the other driver, getting into a punch up.
Unfortunately for Kelleher, the other driver was boxer Brice Rostaing.
Kelleher was reportedly so past the limit that after the accident he could not blow into the breathalyser bag.
He is no stranger to off field controversy, causing a stir in France for drunkenly performing the haka on top of the team bus.
Kelleher says it’s not all late nights and fast cars.
“I'm trying to integrate communities and different languages around the world, so that we can get educated around this process and environment,” he says.
The lessons Kelleher is hoping to teach others are still not clear - but he is likely to learn his when he appears in court in Toulouse next month.
