If you drive through a level crossing on route to work in the mornings, do you always heed the lights, bells and barrier arms?

Have you ever taken a chance and gone through if the train looks far enough away?

You’d be surprised how many do take the risk. Train drivers see it every day. 

While most people make it, there are around 26 collisions a year between cars and trains at level crossings. This never works out well in the motorist's favour.

It is rail safety week and by the looks of the behaviour of Auckland motorists caught on CCTV footage, we all need to be far more aware.

I just about literally got mowed down by an on coming train, one Sunday morning, while crossing the bridge, before Godley Rd, New Lynn, when suddenly leaping out the way of one. Before they barricaded Henderson Train Station, with the now tall wire gates/fences, kids walked along and across those lines all the time, despite the overhead walk over brdge. Was just crazy, mindless, senseless secenes of watching car drivers risk all, for such a precious few short minutes.
