The British Creme Eggs are not going down well

The British Creme Eggs are not going down well

Cadbury are no longer a lovely old British company - last month, they were bought by the American food giant Kraft.

The price - US$19.6 billion.

Kraft are now looking to save money, so they are closing one of Britain's historic Cadbury factories, earning the word "despicable" in a BBC News headline and the anger of the British government.

Not that kraft will be unduly concerned. Business is business, for a company until recently controlled by the tobacco giant Philip Morris.

Meanwhile in New Zealand, Cadbury are staging a retreat. Wine gums, Moros, Crunchies, party packs, Minties - they were all made here, but not any more. And Cadbury chocolate blocks like Dairy Milk were made in New Zealand too – but not any more.

All of them, gone.

But Creme Eggs - they're still made in Dunedin, right?

Not any more.

I had one the other day and found it to be very cheap tasting and the chocolate was very thin and bland. I have noticed over the past year or so even this company's solid bars of chocolate lack that rich flavor that they have claimed for all those years. I will certainly be supporting local chocolate makers from now on. Cadbury should change their name to cheap'n'nasty.

If you think choc eggs from Britain ridiculous, how about Cadbury's Drinking Chocolate, made in New Zealand, packaged in Australia to come back to NZ. How's that for a waste of energy/food miles? Guess who won't be buying any more.

The UK creme eggs are disgusting and besides being 'egg shaped' resemble NOTHING of the once dreamy guey yolky creme eggs we all use to know.

I LOVE my Creme Eggs, and can't wait for that time of year to roll around when they pop up in supermarkets and local shops. But this year I definitely noticed a difference, they are not the Creme Eggs I've grown up with and love so dearly. I will not buy anymore Creme Eggs until we are back to making them in good old New Zealand.
