A high-powered global union is calling for the Ports of Auckland board to be sacked.
The International Transport Workers' Federation is slamming the port authority's decision to lock out wharfies, labelling it "unbelievable, unlawful and practically suicidal".
In a statement from the union's London headquarters, ITF president Paddy Crumlin is calling for Auckland Mayor Len Brown and the council to step in to resolve the dispute.
Wharfies have been issued with an indefinite lockout notice this week, which prompted the Maritime Union to file an injunction to declare the move unlawful.
