Thankfully I have not been one of those affected by the present appauling NOVO pay mess and my heart goes out to collegues affected. I am however, also appalled at our unions lack of action on the matter! What are we paying our union fees for if not for decisive action on such a clear issue? They should be bringing a claim to court on behalf of members pronto!

Novapay stuff-up. The Minister and co responsible for Teachers not been paid should have a portion of their pay paid towards the poor teachers that are owed money. Why should these hard working people suffer with their families when the people responsible for the stuff up have money to eat properly and pay their bills as usual. A written apology should also be available for these people to provide to their banks why they can't meet their mortgages. Pull finger Novapay and remember to enjoy your Xmas will these people are suffering.

Great interview. You waste your talent on some of the trivia you handle, John. While LL is fairly appalling, she fronted when the minister wouldn't. Excuse for mergers? Litany of lies? We are left to draw our own conclusions which is good journalism.

This is a systematic amputation of one of the gangrenous limbs of a rotting Canterbury. Be more afraid of what comes next. In the next 12 months we will see many more businesses close and people leave. The whole rebuild will stall as the population decreases below the level of occupancy for the new homes. Who Will service the satellite townships in the south island, Dunedin? Not likely! What percentage of GDP do we provide 40%. That's a big hole in the finances johnny boy. Better get your calculator out and find a shit load of money to tip in down here buddy because we're all heading to Aussie. This place is a ghost town!

One simple word can fix all of the issues and concerns that Bevan Campbell has rightly identified: EQUITY.

That is the biggest load of rubbish to come out of an ministries mouth. They are closing schools all over Christchurch, even in areas that are growing and where the remaining schools are going to end up overcrowded. This government does not give a toss about communities and future generations, just money. The rest of NZ should be very wary, if it happens to Christchurch, they will move onto other cities with the same b.s.

Bulls**t! The MOE used the July roll returns to set our staffing for next year. If the figures were so 'provisional', why use them to do so? Quite frankly they are continually missusinf data and statistics to continue their GERM infection and destroy our quality public education system! Thanks for a great interview John!

Not only does this show the Ministry to be completely out of touch with the reality of what is going on in Christchurch but the Minister is to afraid to show her face on TV and answer to her ministry's failings. This is an outrage. If the government are to regain any credibility they need to admit they have they have got it wrong and start again. Please keep the pressure up John - keep asking the questions and keep demanding answers.

So whether it's 50 buildings, or 5 buildings is a "matter of interpretation"?? Now I gots worry.

Annette how accurate you are! I couldn't watch the whole thing. As a teacher myself I am appalled that this woman has so much power and I understand is responsible for a lot of ( unwanted)changes in our education system, which , contrary to much publicity , is in very good shape. Why do we need someone from the other side of the world to tell us how to run our education department? Her patronising attitude to educators and their schools in Christchurch was distressing to say the least.
