Canada rugby's Adam Kleeberger fundraises for Chch

Thu, 13 Oct 2011 9:29a.m.

Proving Canada has no hard feelings after being knocked out of the Rugby World Cup, one of the team's players is planning to shave off his impressive beard to fundraise for Christchurch.

Flanker Adam Kleeberger spent eight months growing the beard that drew attention throughout the tournament, and made him the face of the Canadian team.

Now he's launched a Shear the Beard campaign to raise $5000 for the Christchurch rebuild.

Kleeberger has raised more than $2500 so far.

He said he wanted to thank New Zealanders for their support of Canada during the Rugby World Cup, and help out the city which lost its tournament games following the February earthquake.

Once the beard's gone, Kleeberger plans to grow a new moustache for Movember, to fundraise for Canadian cancer charities.

I knew there was a hottie hiding under that beard.

The Canadian team were the epitome of fun & hardwork. They gave kiwi's a good laugh (watch their “Bust a move” video!) and provided some memorable rugby.

Good on ya Kleeberger! You’re welcome back anytime!
