Both New Zealand boats in action on Monday are through to the semi-finals of the canoe sprint at the London Olympics.

K1 1000m paddler Ben Fouhy was second fastest in his heat to record the sixth best time of 3min 35.610sec for the semi-finals later in the day at Eton Dorney.

The first five boats in each heat plus best sixth-placed time will contest the two semi-finals.

The top four boats in each semi-final advance to the final.

The K2 1000m combination of Steven Ferguson and Darryl Fitzgerald also advanced after finishing fourth in their heat in 3:16.608.

They were five seconds behind heat winners Rudolf Dombi and Roland Kokeny who progressed straight to the final while the five other boats made the semi-finals.

The top three boats from each semi-final make the final.
